It is likewise known as DH or Duhring's Disease. The name implies the meaning in that it is a skin disease that has the certain appearance similar to herpes, however, the condition is not caused by or related to the herpes virus. DH was first described during the year 1884 by Dr. Louis Duhring, therefore the name. In the year 1867, a correlation between celiac disease or gluten intolerance and DH was recognized. In the majority of cases, the age of onset is typically 15 to 40 years, although, DH could also have an effect on the elderly as well as children. Men and women are also affected. The prevalence of DH varies from 1 in 400 to 1 in 10,000.

Indications

Dermatitis Herpetiformis has a characteristic rash which contains chronic papulovesicular eruptions, which are intensely itchy. This particular kind of rash is normally distributed symmetrically on extensor surfaces like the knees, back of neck, elbows, back and the buttocks. The blisters can range from being up to 1 cm across to very small. Because this particular condition is really itch intensive, the need to scratch can be overwhelming. This may cause the sufferer to actually scratch blisters off before they could be examined by a medical doctor. Intense burning sensations or intense itching are sometimes felt prior to blisters appearing in a particular area.

The severity of Dermatitis Herpetiformis can vary eventually if not treated. usually, the initial signs appear in early adulthood, between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. The very first noticeable indications are the small papules or vesicles which resemble blisters or bumps. The initial indications are intensive itching and burning. Generally, the very first blisters appear on the shoulders, on the lower end of the spinal column, along the hairline and at times in the mouth. Rarely, does the rash happen on several mucous membranes other than the mouth or the lips. If gluten ingestion is prevented and the right treatment is administered, the indications usually disappear. In several cases, taking oral contraceptives may exacerbate the symptoms.

The symptoms of dermatitis herpetiformis are persistent. Generally, the symptoms tend to come and go, often in short periods of time. These symptoms can be accompanied by abdominal pain and tiredness and several indications of celiac disease.

The DH rash usually forms and disappears in 3 stages. The individual will firstly see a slight discoloration of the skin where the lesions appear. The next stage would be the lesions transforming into groups of clear vesicles and papules. The healing stage of the lesions is the final stage of development. Normally this set of symptoms is characterized by a skin color change. This can lead to areas of the skin turning darker or lighter than the color of the skin somewhere else on the body. Because of the intense itching, people generally scratch that can cause the formation of crusts.

Norfolk County is located on the north shore of Lake Erie in Southwestern Ontario's tobacco belt. Simcoe City serves as Norfolk County's county seat. Though referred to as a county, Norfolk is officially a rural city-status single-tier municipality. The last Census showed the municipality had a population of 62,563.

The area around Norfolk is surrounded by a lot of smaller communities which take advantage of some of the best agricultural land within Ontario. Because of the mild climate and long growing season, tobacco could grow well in the city of Norfolk. Because tobacco consumption declines and once-profitable tobacco operations slowly move to a more diversified approach, area farmers are starting to grow lavender, ginseng, hazelnuts and wolfberries. Norfolk County is gradually developing a small winery business and an agri-tourism industry. Greenhouse businesses are strong in Norfolk. There are numerous farmers who sell their products from the farmgate.

The area of Norfolk County has a large tourism industry due to its location close to Lake Erie, along Ontario's south coast. Norfolk county port towns, like Turkey Point, Port Dover, and Long Point, draw visitors interested in fishing, hiking, camping, birdwatching and cycling.

Norfolk is home to the Waterford Pumpkin Festival and the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show, both held every month of October. PD13 is the Port Dover motorcycle enthusiasts' event held every year on the 13th of Friday.   More
